 Implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive

The Blue Rivers^® experts have successful experience in the implementation of the different aspects of EU Water Framework Directive (following its Annex VII):

1. Legal aspects:

• Development of the glossary of the terms and definitions of the water directives in Ukrainian;
• Development of the amendments to the Water Code;
• Support in the development of the Directive Specific Implementation Plan                     

2. Technical aspects:

• River Basin analysis

Water bod y delineation: The experts developed and published a Guidance on Hydrographic and Water Management Delineation of Territory of Ukraine According to the Requirements of EU Water Framework Directive;

Identification of reference conditions;Assessment of significant pressures and impact of human activity on the status of surface water and groundwater;

Conduction of hydrobiological, hydromorphological and hydrobiological field surveys;

Development of the monitoring network (frequency, monitoring stations, list of paramters etc.);Ecological and chemical water body status assessment;

• Development of the Programme of measures.

3. Institutional strengthening and public awareness raising:

• trainings in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Turkey, Croatia and Slovenia for river basin authorities on technical aspects of the WFD implementation;
• public consultations for the RBMP.

The experts successfully participated in the development of the RBMPs for the following river basins: Danube (in frame of the ICPDR), Dnieper, Dniester, Sava, Tigr, Pripyat, Tisza international, Tisza National, Bug and Pivdenny Bug.

The experts developed a brochure “Water quality and water resources management, including marine environment: short description of the EU Directives and the schedule of their implementation” (in Ukrainian)
